As a respected name in the coffee industry, Café Diario is making strides to achieving corporate sustainability. We are dedicated to decreasing our environmental impact and concentrating on sustainability in various areas of our business. Here are the numerous initiatives Café Diario is spearheading in an effort to achieve this.
At the heart of our coffee business, Café Diario offers an excellent choice for customers who are also considering the well-being of the environment. Our CO2 decaffeination process employs ultra-pure water and supercritical carbon dioxide to remove caffeine in an innovative all-natural procedure.
Café Diario is an EPA Green Power Partner. This voluntary program encourages organizations to decrease electricity consumption through the use of green power. The program currently has more than 1,700 partner organizations using billions of kilowatt-hours of green power yearly.
As an EPA Green Power Partner, Café Diario sources one-third of our energy requirements from alternative sources, primarily wind generation. Additionally, the company also employs energy-saving fluorescent bulbs in our facility to further decrease our energy consumption.
When it comes to alternative energy, Café Diario is also mindful of the amount of coffee waste we produce and have found a way to repurpose it, rather than sending it to a landfill. Coffee bean waste has become an alternative energy source for the company and is used to power the boilers. Consequently, Café Diario relies less on natural gas.
Café Diario continues this eco-friendly approach with our coffee packaging options. The company chooses reusable materials like cans and jars to distribute, store, and package its instant coffee and various coffee roasted or ground blends. Packaging films and cardboard boxes are also recycled. Even the water used in the natural decaffeination process is reused to clean the external surfaces of equipment.
Café Diario is focused on enhancing its recycling program and plans to implement additional ways to recycle in the near future.
The company understands that it’s not enough to recycle packaging materials. There is a need—and an opportunity—to package our coffee products more sustainably.
Working with suppliers, Café Diario has conducted an extensive study of our entire packaging system—from sourcing raw materials to shipping—to identify areas of improvement from an environmental perspective. This step has enabled the company to eliminate toxic materials, design products that can be recycled, and use recyclable material or material that can be composted in our packaging.
Café Diario is also collaborating with suppliers to develop a sustainable approach to the use of packaging in the coffee industry. Currently, we are working with suppliers to reduce the amount of packaging that is used in shipping our products.
Implementing environmentally-friendly measures is vital, but spreading awareness in the industry and among customers to help forge new partnerships and devise better solutions is equally important.
We know that more can be done. If you have any ideas on sustainability, social responsibility and partnering with the community, please share them with us.
